New Vinyl Record - Hank Mobley - Workout (Blue Note Classic Vinyl Series)
Tenor saxophonistΒ Hank MobleyΒ was at the peak of his powers throughout the early 1960s as he produced a staggering run of hard bop classics includingΒ Soul Station,Β Roll Call, Workout, No Room For Squares, andΒ The Turnaround. Recorded in 1961,Β WorkoutΒ was an energetic quintet outing featuring Mobley with guitaristΒ Grant Green, pianistΒ Wynton Kelly, bassistΒ Paul Chambers, and drummerΒ Philly Joe Jones. The spirited five-song set consisted of four dynamic Mobley originalsββWorkout,β βUh Huh,β βSmokinβ,β and βGreasinβ Easyββthat proved to be ideal vehicles inspiring vigorous improvisations from each of the soloists. The lone standard βThe Best Things In Life Are Freeββtaken from the musical Good Newsβwas a showcase for Mobleyβs more lyrical side.
This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is stereo, all-analog, mastered byΒ Kevin GrayΒ from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
