The Chicago-born pianist and composerĀ Jack WilsonĀ enjoyed a wide-range of musical associations including work with the likes ofĀ Dinah Washington,Ā Sarah Vaughan,Ā Lou Rawls,Ā Gerald Wilson,Ā Roy Ayers, and recording leader dates for Atlantic before he made his Blue Note debut in 1966 with the highly uniqueĀ Something Personal.Ā Easterly Windsāthe second of Wilsonās three Blue Note albums and arguably his finestāfound the pianist at the helm of a first-rate hard bop sextet withĀ Lee MorganĀ on trumpet, Garnett Brown on trombone,Ā Jackie McLeanĀ on alto saxophone,Ā Bob CranshawĀ on bass, andĀ Billy HigginsĀ on drums. The six-song set presented four Wilson originals including the groovy opener āDo It" and the sublime ballad āNirvannaā in addition to a tender rendition of theĀ Johnny MandelĀ tune āA Time for Loveā and āFrankās Tuneā byĀ Frank Strozier, which was recently reimagined byĀ Makaya McCravenĀ on his 2021 Blue Note remix projectĀ Deciphering the Message.Ā
This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at Record Technology Inc. (RTI), and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.
